Veterans Administration Turns to WellPower to Help Evaluate Veterans

The WellPower has joined forces with the Veterans Administration (VA) to help evaluate Colorado’s backlog of post combat veterans with possible Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and Traumatic Brain Injuries (TBI).

The WellPower is uniquely qualified to assist thanks to the expertise of Peter Wagner, M.D., a certified neuropsychiatrist.  Dr. Wagner is the only certified neuropsychiatrist working for a Colorado community mental health center.  A neuropsychiatrist is a physician trained in psychiatry, with specialized training in the neuroanatomical aspects of brain functioning as well as having the mastery of clinical skills required to treat neurologically-based emotional, cognitive and behavioral problems.

“Dr. Wagner’s medical and psychological expertise are perfectly suited to evaluate the complicated interplay of TBI and PTSD,” noted Jeff Tucker, J.D., who helps oversee operations at The Center for Neuropsychiatry at the WellPower. “Dr. Wagner also completed a fellowship with the VA so he knows the military community very well.”

Approximately six veteran evaluations will be provided each week at The Center for Neuropsychiatry as part of the program working with the VA.

“We’re grateful for the opportunity to be involved in helping ensure  that our veterans’ needs are properly identified,” said Dr. Wagner.  “The first step to returning to a normal life is a proper diagnosis and the work we do will help set them on the road to recovery.”
